Negotiations

B. How we Negotiate On Your Behalf

Local Bargaining

The Negotiating Team for each Local is usually made up of the elected representatives, or Table Officers, of each Local and experienced MGEU staff. It is the responsibility of this Negotiating Team to first identify the concerns and proposals of their fellow Local members and then negotiate for their implementation with the employer.

When more than one Local share a common collective agreement, the Negotiating Team is usually made up of the Presidents of each Local, plus MGEU staff.

Master Bargaining

Since the civil service is so large, the bargaining process is structured a little differently.

In a bargaining year, all Civil Service Locals meet to identify member concerns and proposals for collective bargaining. Once this has been accomplished, the Negotiating Team — made up of the MGEU President, First Vice-President and the Directors of each of the Civil Service Components, along with assigned staff, go to the bargaining table with government representatives.
