Keep MI and VEMA public

Government cuts to staff and resources at Manitoba Infrastructure and the Vehicle and Equipment Management Agency (VEMA) have made it extremely difficult for those who maintain our highways and provincial equipment to do their jobs, while putting Manitobans' safety at risk.

MGEU members delivering these services are focused on one thing: providing quality services that keep Manitobans safe.

But rather than invest in these important public services, the government has chosen the risky path toward privatization.

Please show your support and help keep Manitoba's highway and vehicle maintenance services public by sending the following message to the Premier, the Minister of Transportation & Infrastructure, and the Minister of Government Services.

Message:

MGEU members are proud of the public services they provide every day to Manitobans. But funding and staffing cuts at Manitoba Infrastructure and the province’s Vehicle and Equipment Management Agency (VEMA) mean that highway and vehicle maintenance services continue to suffer, while workloads increase.

Rather than properly funding these services, your government is privatizing them by contracting out and selling off provincial equipment. I am very worried about what could happen when an emphasis on profits for private corporations is placed ahead of public safety.

That is why I am calling on your government to invest in these public services by ensuring adequate staffing and equipment levels are restored. I also urge you to keep these services public because privatization costs us more and impacts the quality of the service provided to Manitobans.

It's time for your government to stop the cuts and invest in public services that provide good jobs for hard-working, skilled Manitobans, while keeping our highways maintained and safe for everyone.
