LATEST BARGAINING NEWS
of Local 441 filed a strike notice for Monday,
September 26 with their employer on September 16, 2022. During an information picket held outside the centre on the 16th,
MGEU representatives distributed leaflets to parents to provide notice of the
possible job action and answer any questions they may have.
On September 26, Local 441 members walked off the job and will remain on strike until the employer does the right thing and takes concessions off the table.
Overview of Bargaining So Far
Members of Les Tournesols de Saint-Vital - Local 441 had an opportunity to put forward their ideas and proposals for improving their collective agreement at a meeting on September 27, 2021. The Bargaining Committee then worked to pull together these proposals into a package to present to the employer.
Les Tournesols de Saint-Vital - Local 441 Bargaining Committee exchanged proposals with the employer on October 18, 2021 and negotiations continued on October 25 and November 1, 15, and 29, 2021, and continued on January 10 and 24 , 2022.
Les Tournesols de Saint-Vital - Local 441 Bargaining Committee believed negotiations with the employer had reached an impasse in early 2022. They requested that the Manitoba Labour Board appoint a conciliator to assist the parties in renewing the collective agreement.
A conciliator was appointed and met with the two sides individually on several occasions. The Les Tournesols de Saint-Vital - Local 441 Bargaining Committee met with the conciliator in March, April, April, May and June.
Les Tournesols de Saint-Vital - Local 441 Bargaining
Committee received an offer from the employer and prepared a
ratification vote for June 25. 2022. The Committee recommended rejection
of the offer, and members voted against it, while subsequently providing a strike mandate.
