Members of Metis Child and Family Services - Local 383 ratified a new two-year agreement on May 26, 2023.
Highlights include wage increases in each year of the agreement (retroactive
pay to be processed within 60 days of ratification) and improvements to sick bank accrual, evening premiums, and employer pension plan contributions.
Overview of Bargaining So Far
Members of Métis CFS - Local 383 had an opportunity to put forward their ideas and proposals for improving their collective agreement at a meeting on Monday, November 29, 2021.
After a number of proposal meetings in the winter and spring of 2022, plans were made to negotiate the Métis, Michif, and Métis Authority contracts together. However, there were no elected activists from Métis CFS, which delayed the start of negotiations.
In late May 2022, a new Métis CFS executive was elected. The combined Michif CFS - Locals 384, 385,422, Métis CFS - Local 383, Métis CFS Authority - Local 394 Bargaining Committee then finalized the proposal package to present to the employer.
The Metis Child and Family Services - Local 383 Bargaining Committee met on Tuesday, November 22 to review bargaining
proposals submitted by members and met again on
Monday, December 12 to finalize the proposal package.
The Bargaining Committee began negotiating non-monetary proposals, such as
working conditions and contract language, with the employer on January 20, 2023.
The two sides
met again on March 2 and 3, where they worked to conclude discussions
around non-monetary proposals.
Negotiations continued on March 13 and April 4 and 12, 2023 when the
Committee and the employer began discussing monetary proposals like
wages and benefits, as well as negotiating the Essential Services
Agreement.
The Metis Child and Family Services - Local 383 Bargaining Committee continued negotiations with the employer re: monetary proposals like
wages and benefits on April
20, May 1, 2, and 11, 2023.
The Bargaining Committee reached a tentative agreement with the employer on May 11, 2023.
Members had an opportunity to vote on the agreement at a ratification vote meeting on May 26, 2023. Voting took place from 11:30 to 2:30 and 4:30 to 6:30 pm, with a presentation at 5:00 pm.
The Committee recommended acceptance of the agreement.
