Overview of Bargaining So Far
In spring 2021, Technical Professional Component - Locals 408, 409, 420, 411 and 420 members had an opportunity to send in bargaining proposals via email, and then vote on them at an online meeting. It was important to revisit this process because proposals had originally been gathered before the conclusion of representation votes.
Since then, and through the pandemic, the Bargaining Committee worked hard to
finalize the proposal package and pressed the employer to get to the
table.
A May 25th bargaining proposal meeting was held for AFM members moving into the Technical Professional Component

The Bargaining Committee finalized the Essential Services Agreement and headed to the table to begin negotiations with the employer on May 31, 2022.
The Committee began talks on non-monetary issues,
which include items related to employee rights and working conditions, shortly after.
The Technical Professional Component - Locals 408, 409, 410, 411 and 420 Bargaining Committee met with the employer every Tuesday and caucused every Wednesday. Once non-monetary items had all been addressed, they began monetary discussions, including wages, premiums, benefits, new classification, special wage adjustments and allowances.
At the same time, the union continued to meet with Provincial representatives at a separate table to discuss recruitment, retention, and training incentives for Tech/Prof members.
Through these talks, the employer agreed to provide:
- a one-time increase of $500 (Full-Time) or $250 (Part-Time) for each member’s Health Spending Account effective January 2023;
- reimbursement for professional license or professional association membership fees (where required by the employer) for the 2023/24 and 2024/25 licensure year.
Further recruitment and retention talks are scheduled into the spring.
At the end of April, with talks around wages stalled, the Bargaining Committee called a strike vote, asking members to provide them with a strike mandate.
