Victoria General Hospital Lifeline ratifies new agreement
Members of Victoria General Hospital Lifeline - Local 137, who provide the tools which allow vulnerable Manitobans to stay connected to emergency services and family while living independently, ratified a new agreement last night which will expire in March of 2025.

MGEU donates to Fiona relief efforts in Atlantic Canada
The MGEU has donated $15,000 through the union’s Humanitarian Fund to the Canadian Red Cross to help Atlantic Canadians recover from Hurricane Fiona, while the MGEU’s National Union (NUPGE) has contributed $50,000 to help with the emergency response in the region.

MGEU research shows psychological supports for correctional officers needed now more than ever
New data, obtained through a freedom of information request from the MGEU, reveals that correctional officers make up 0.42% of Manitoba’s workforce, but represent over 20% of all psychological injury claims accepted by the Workers Compensation Board in the province. At the same time, officer claims for post-traumatic stress disorder have more than doubled – from 11 in 2018, to 24 in 2021.

CFS Western Manitoba Ratifies Agreement
On Monday, September 26 , MGEU Local #211 - CFS Western Manitoba, who work out of Brandon and area, ratified a new four-year collective agreement. Highlights include wage increases in each year of the agreement, including retroactive pay back to April 2019 for existing employees.

Daycare Workers On Strike
MGEU members from Les Tournesols child care centre, Local 441, walked off the job on September 26. “I want to express that strike action was the last thing any of us wanted, but we have been left with no choice,” said MGEU President, Kyle Ross. “We’ve been at the bargaining table for almost a year and, unfortunately, this employer refuses to treat our members with fairness and respect.

Members of Les Tournesols child care centre file strike notice; hold info picket for parents
With reluctance, members of Local 441, Les Tournesols de Saint-Vital filed a strike notice for Monday, September 26 with their employer yesterday. During an information picket held outside the centre yesterday, MGEU representatives distributed leaflets to parents to provide notice of the possible job action and answer any questions they may have.
