The Province has proclaimed November 6, 2013 as Community Social Service (CSS) Workers Appreciation Day in Manitoba.
Millions of Canadians depend on CSS workers to live independently, to participate fully in the community, and for their safety. The idea for an appreciation day to honour these dedicated workers originated at a 2007 conference for the MGEU’s National Union.
Each year after that, the day has been honoured by NUPGE and its affiliates as a way to bring attention to the sector’s importance to our communities and to acknowledge the contributions these workers make on a daily basis.
“These dedicated workers really are the backbone of our communities. Every day, they’re out there enabling our most vulnerable children, teens and families to be a bigger part of their communities,” says MGEU President Michelle Gawronsky. “I’m so glad we’re able to take a day and shine the light on the work they do and acknowledge the vital contributions they make in our province."
The MGEU, which represents about 2,000 CSS workers across the province, sent a request earlier this fall to proclaim November 6, 2013 CSS Workers Appreciation Day in Manitoba.
