Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI – MGEU Component 10) members ratified a new four-year contract earlier today.

“This round of bargaining had its own unique challenges as both the Committee and the employer had agreed to bargain within a finite time-period.
In the end, the agreement was reached after four months of extremely tough negotiations, and ultimately through a conciliator,” said MGEU President Michelle Gawronsky.

Their new four-year agreement (effective September 18, 2016 – September 26, 2020) includes general wage increases in each year, market adjustments in the first two years of the agreement, improvements to benefits, and an employment security clause for the life of the agreement.

“In the end,” Gawronsky said, “I think most members felt this agreement’s mix of wage and benefit increases and job security was a reasonable offer.”

Now that the contract is ratified, the MPI Bargaining Committee will be meeting with their employer to finalize and then sign the agreement for printing and distribution to members.

MPI is a Crown Corporation that provides basic automobile insurance across Manitoba and is dedicated to keeping Manitoba’s roads safe and vehicle insurance rates low. There are over 1500 MGEU members working for MPI across the province.
