The MGEU is happy to welcome its newest Local — Rod McGillivary Memorial Home, Local 447 — a long-term care facility located in the Opaskwayak Cree Nation.

Roughly 45 new members employed as Health Care Aides, Dietary Aides and Cooks, Housekeeping and Laundry Aides, and Handivan Drivers, join the MGEU’s 17,500 other health care members that work throughout the province.

“When these folks came to us, they were specifically looking for fairness, equality and most importantly consistency when it comes to their wages, shift assignments and safety in the workplace,” said MGEU President Michelle Gawronsky. “By joining MGEU, these new members will have access to the experience and expertise needed to ensure these concerns are addressed.”

Workers in Local 447 chose the MGEU after seeing the many benefits offered, including having the lowest dues, a structure that supports all Locals, a long list of health care facilities already represented by MGEU, and access to staff specialists.
