The MGEU will be holding a rally in Dauphin on Tuesday, February 4 to send the Pallister government a clear message: closing the Dauphin Correctional Centre will strain our correctional system and the community of Dauphin to the breaking point.

"As one of the largest employers in the community, the closure of DCC will hit Dauphin's economy hard," said MGEU President Michelle Gawronsky. "This whole thing makes no sense. Cutting correctional spaces at a time when we're struggling so much with crime in our province makes no sense. Callously cutting over 80 stable, vital, well-paying jobs in a community the size of Dauphin, makes no sense."

The rally will begin at 5:00 pm outside the Dauphin Correctional Centre (114 River Ave W). MGEU members, family, friends and all other supporters are also invited to gather at the MGEU office (322 Main St S) at 4:30 pm before the rally to march down Main Street to DCC and raise awareness.

"We're asking everyone to please share this on Facebook and shout it from the roof tops," Gawronsky said. "We need as many people as possible to make the government sit up and pay attention."

Here’s how you can help right now!
Send a message to the Premier, Minister and Dauphin MLA!

Tell them to stop the DCC closure and proceed with the previous plan to build a new correctional centre in Dauphin.
