Since the COVID—19 pandemic began, the MGEU and other organizations have needed to adapt to rapidly changing conditions and public health restrictions.

As the Province of Manitoba began “re-opening” and relaxed public health restrictions in May, June and July, the MGEU responded by developing an in-person meeting protocol. We then began the process of scheduling Local meetings to hold elections for Convention delegates and Local union positions. As a democratic union led by elected members, we felt it was important to take the opportunity to hold these election meetings while public health conditions allowed.

Unfortunately, Manitoba is now experiencing a deterioration of the COVID-19 pandemic situation. Significant public health restrictions (Orange: Restricted level) have recently been imposed in the Prairie Mountain Health region, and all Manitobans are expected to take steps to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

A special meeting of the MGEU Board of Directors was held on August 27 to deal with the latest pandemic circumstances in Manitoba. At this meeting, the Board decided to postpone the pre-convention Local meetings to elect Convention delegates and Local positions until further notice.

Please be assured that the MGEU will continue to monitor the pandemic situation as well as public health restrictions. As always, we will continue to keep members updated as the pandemic situation unfolds.
