MGEU Statement on Government Vaccination Requirements
Aug 24, 2021
Today, the Manitoba government announced that many public sector employees, including health care workers, education workers, correctional officers and other designated government employees, must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 by October 31, 2021.
Individuals who are not able to be vaccinated for medical reasons, or who choose not to be vaccinated, will be required to undergo regular COVID-19 testing and will be required to provide proof of a recent negative test.
As we enter a “fourth wave” of the pandemic, it’s more important than ever that Manitobans do everything possible to protect each other and our communities, and slow the spread of this virus.
Vaccinations
– along with other measures like masking and distancing – have proven to be the
most effective ways to fight COVID-19 and keep each other safe.
The MGEU encourages our members, and all Manitobans, to get vaccinated.
At the same time, we welcome the alternatives offered, which provide for medical accommodations, and ongoing testing, to ensure that our workplaces, and those we serve, are protected.
The MGEU
supported the government’s policy on mandatory mask use in all indoor public
places, and we are pleased to learn that this policy will be reintroduced
shortly.
