Manitoba’s inaugural Workplace Mental Health conference — brought to you by Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA-MB-WPG) and the MGEU — is coming in Spring 2022.

“The MGEU’s Healthy Minds at Work Task Group, which is made up of members from across the province with a real passion for mental health on the job, has been working with the CMHA to plan this for some time,” said MGEU President Kyle Ross. “Both in-person and virtually, we’re hoping to bring together union members, managers, occupational health and safety reps, and human resource professionals from all types of work environments to talk about how we can create more psychologically healthy and safe workplaces.”

Interested MGEU members now have an opportunity to apply to attend the two-day conference. Held over April 11 and 12, 2022 in Winnipeg, sessions will focus on creative and collaborative approaches to:

  • reduce and eliminate exposure to workplace stressors;
  • recognize and respond to mental health challenges in a psychologically safe way;
  • shift direction and adapt to new ways of working in the wake of the pandemic;
  • learn from those who’ve co-created thriving work environments where mental health is a priority for all.

“We’re looking for members who have a real interest in or experience with mental well-being at work,” Ross said. “No previous union involvement is required.”

The deadline to apply is Tuesday, January 4, 2022. The following week, the MGEU’s Healthy Minds at Work Task group will review applications and select 150 conference delegates on individual interest and experience, as well as broad representation from all MGEU Locals and Areas.
