We are very sad to share the news that our friend and former colleague, Bob Bayer, passed away on July 9, 2022, at Riverview Health Centre.
A celebration of life will be held tomorrow, July 23, 2022, at Club Laverendrye (614 Des Meurons St.) at 2:30 pm.
Fondly remembered as a true gentleman and sharp dresser, Bob’s excellent mentorship and gentle soul will be sorely missed.
Bob spent much of his career working tirelessly on behalf of health care support services members.
Bob was the executive director of the Institutional Employees’ Union when it was amalgamated with the MGEU in the 1980s and he was an MGEU Staff Representative for over 20 years.
Bob helped to create the MGEU’s Facility Support Component, spending countless hours bargaining on behalf of both public and private sector workers, and was an important figure in the Facility Support strike of the 1990s that ultimately led to pay equity and wage standardization within public personal care homes.
Our deepest condolences go out to Bob’s family. He will be greatly missed by everyone here at the MGEU.
