Each MGEU Local elects Convention Delegates at a Local meeting. The number of delegates elected to Convention is determined by the size of the Local. Each Local is entitled to send one delegate for its first 150 members, plus one additional delegate for each additional 100 members, or a major portion thereof.
The deadline for electing delegates and alternates is June 30, 2021.
Virtual Local Election Meetings
Local election meetings will take place between April and June of 2021. Local meeting notices will be sent 35 days prior to each meeting. Voting credentials will be sent by email 7 days before each meeting.
Details about how to connect to your virtual Local election meeting will be provided with these meeting notice and credential messages. Technical support will be made available to support members in successfully connecting with their Local election meeting.
If you want to participate in your virtual Local election meeting, you must ensure the MGEU has your valid personal email address at least 16 days in advance of your Local meeting. You can update your information here or contact the MGEU Resource Centre.
Local Election Meeting Agendas will include:
- Election of delegates to the October 2021 virtual Convention;
- Election of Local Table Officers and other Local positions (including any necessary by-elections); and
- Discussion about the report of the committee established by the 2018 convention to research the advantages and disadvantages of moving to a three-year Convention/elections cycle. The 2021 virtual Convention agenda includes consideration of this report, as directed by the previous Convention.
