MGEU Mourns the Passing of Bill Comstock
Today we say goodbye to a long-time MGEU staff member and friend, Bill Comstock, who passed away last night after a lengthy illness. Bill worked for the MGEU for 23 years before retiring in 2006 as the union’s Director of Negotiating Services.

Amendments to Mental Health Act Raise Serious Concerns
The Pallister government proclaimed amendments to the Mental Health Act which is raising huge concerns for the MGEU and health care workers across the province. The amendments will see police officers transfer over the custody of individuals awaiting an involuntary medical examination or psychiatric assessment to “a person who is trained and qualified” or in other words, health care aides and nurses. The government has stated training will be provided.

Manitoba Home Care Employees Pension Plan to Switch Service Providers
The Board of Trustees for the Manitoba Home Care Employees Pension Plan is changing administrators from Canada Life (formerly known as Great-West Life Assurance Company) to the Ellement Consulting Group. Ellement will begin administrating the plan as of October 1, 2019.

Premier Does Not Seem Concerned by Provincial Employees’ Growing Dissatisfaction
A new survey conducted recently by the Manitoba Government shows that provincial employees are significantly less happy with their jobs than they were just three years ago. Employees were about 16 percent less satisfied with their respective departments, while only 38 percent say they feel valued as a Manitoba government employee.
