MGEU welcomes newest Local - Animikii Ozoson CFS
Oct 02, 2017
The MGEU is happy to welcome its newest Local — Animikii Ozoson Child & Family Services, Local 443 — a Winnipeg-based agency that works with families from Ontario First Nations who live in the city.
The roughly 50 foster care workers, direct service workers, unit supervisors and administrative staff join nearly 700 other MGEU members who work in similar CFS agencies throughout the province.
“When these folks came to us, they were specifically looking for improved health and safety supports and a stronger voice in general with their employer,” said MGEU President Michelle Gawronsky. “I think given we already represent twelve different Locals who specialize in providing support services to Manitoba children and families, they knew we had the experience and expertise to ensure those concerns were addressed.”
Local 443 is the fifth new MGEU Local — including End Homelessness Winnipeg (Local 439), The Pas Regional Library (Local 440), Les Tournesols de Saint Vital (Local 441), and WRHA Public Health Specialists (Local 442) — to certify at the Manitoba Labour Board in the last six months.
