Attend the CCPA Long-Term Care Panel Discussion Nov. 23

Nov 21, 2017

long term care

The Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives - Manitoba is hosting a panel this Thursday, November 23 at 7:00pm (Hotel Fort Garry - LaVerendrye Room) to talk about “Exercising Choice in Long-Term Residential Care.”

Given the changes taking place in Manitoba’s health care system, and the uncertainty this has created for patient care, it’s a timely topic for discussion. The MGEU is co-sponsoring the event and HCSS Component Director, Terry Rear, will join the panel to discuss her experiences as a long-term care provider. The presentation portion of the evening will see Dr. Pat Armstrong of York University and Dr. Hugh Armstrong of Carleton University examine issues affecting long-term care from a public policy perspective.

When: Thursday, November 23 at 7:00pm (doors open at 6:30pm)

Where: Hotel Fort Garry - LaVerendrye Room

About the Presenters

Pat and Hugh Armstrong are the authors of Wasting Away: The Undermining of Canadian Health Care (2010) and Critical to Care: the Invisible Women in Health Services (2008) and About Canada: Health Care (2016), now it its second edition.

Dr. Pat Armstrong is the Principal investigator of a major SSHRC-funded project on “Re-imagining Long-term Residential Care: An International Study of Promising Practices” and Professor of Sociology at York University.

Dr. Hugh Armstrong’s research interests include long-term care, the political economy of healthcare, unions and public policy. He is Professor Emeritus with the School of Social Work and the Institute of Political Economy at Carleton University.

Terry Rear

Terry Rear serves as the Director for one of the MGEU’s largest Components: Health Care Support Services. She has worked in long-term residential care for over 25 years and has served as an MGEU activist for 21 years.
