Kinosao Sipi Minisowin CFS Workers Choose MGEU
Jun 28, 2018
Manitoba’s largest union continues to grow as twenty-one workers of Kinosao Sipi Minisowin Child and Family Services recently voted to join the MGEU, making them the union’s newest Local.
Located in Winnipeg, Kinosao Sipi Minisowin CFS Local 448 members support children and families by developing and delivering programs and services across Manitoba. The new Local includes CFS workers, alternate care workers, clerical workers, and foster care workers.
“I’m so excited to welcome another new Local to the MGEU family,” said MGEU President, Michelle Gawronsky. “We continue to grow as a union in this sector and it’s because workers are recognizing the strength we have across the province representing child and family services workers.”
The MGEU represents the majority of those who work in child and family services in Manitoba, including approximately 225 members who work directly for the Province and over 550 who work in agencies like Kinosao Sipi Minisowin CFS.
“On behalf of all of our members I’d like to welcome everyone from Local 448 to the MGEU,” added Gawronsky.
The next step for the Local is to elect a bargaining committee and set proposal meeting dates to prepare for negotiations on their first collective agreement with their employer.
