Today, the MGEU launches a new ad campaign which focuses on the valuable, challenging, and often dangerous, work of Manitoba Correctional Officers.

Most people never think about what happens inside a correctional facility. But officers are doing important work 24 hours a day to keep Manitobans safe, support our communities, and help people get their lives on the right track.

The new campaign, called More Than A Uniform will run throughout the province in September – a period that includes Correctional Worker Day (Sept. 3) and National Police and Peace Officers’ Memorial Day (Sept. 25).

“This is a challenging job. It can take a toll on our members' physical and mental health and the pandemic made it that much tougher,” said MGEU President, Kyle Ross. “The public doesn’t often hear from officers about what it takes to do this critical work, so this is our chance to share their stories and showcase the work they do on behalf of all Manitobans.”

In addition to paid radio, billboard, and online advertising, a dedicated campaign page – – has been created, which will include short videos featuring correctional officers posted throughout the month.

“Everyone on the frontlines has had a profoundly challenging few years, and that was particularly true of Correctional Officers. Hearing their perspective right now is both timely and important,” added Ross.
