For the first time, the MGEU is hosting two one-day Issue Conferences this April and all eligible members are encouraged to apply to attend.

These conferences – scheduled for April 15 & 16, 2025 at the Victoria Hotel & Conference Centre in Winnipeg – aim to connect, empower, and elevate discussion amongst attendees.

On Tuesday, April 15, 2025, the MGEU Young Members’ Committee is hosting “Breaking Barriers – Building Bridges,” a day full of sessions and special guests, providing gen z and late gen y members with a well-rounded introduction to their union, while exploring a wide-range of topics relevant to young workers.

Then, on Wednesday, April 16, the MGEU Equity and Human Rights Committee is sponsoring “Healing the Root Causes of Trauma (Caused by Discrimination).” This full-day conference includes a panel discussion about discrimination, as well as sessions that explore mental health at work and fostering respectful workplaces.

Please join us! These conferences are an excellent way for members to learn more about their union and each other, while exploring ways to bring issues that matter to equity-denied and young members.

Important Application / Selection Information

  • Members can apply for one or both conferences. However, space is limited to 75 participants for each conference. Members are asked to provide their first and second choice on the application form if applying for both conferences.
  • Applicants will be selected based on criteria provided by the member in the application form. Priority will be given to members who are not activists within the union and have not attended an MGEU educational, convention or MGEU conference within the last five years. Selection will also be based on ensuring diverse Local and regional representation.
  • The Young Members’ Committee will review applications and select participants for “Breaking Barriers – Building Bridges”. Participants for this conference must be an MGEU member in good standing who is 35 years of age or younger by April 15, 2025.
  • The Equity and Human Rights Committee will review applications and select participants for “Healing the Root Causes of Trauma (Caused by Discrimination)”. Participants for this conference must be an MGEU member in good standing. Priority will be given to those who identify with an equity-denied group (members are encouraged to self-identify in the application form).
  • All activities for both conferences will be held in-person. There is no virtual option to attend either conference.
  • Participants may be eligible to request time off work and eligible expenses as per the MGEU Policy and Procedures Manual.

The Committees wish to thank everyone in advance for their interest. Only those selected to attend one of the conferences will be contacted in February 2025 to complete an event registration form.
