“We have staff in Winnipeg and throughout the regions who are basically responsible for making sure every time a Manitoban pours themselves a glass of water, it’s going to look good, taste good and of course, be safe to drink,” Davies says. “Some days that can mean working with rural Manitobans to provide technical advice regarding water system design, operation and proper monitoring, while other days we might focus more on data collection.”
Drinking Water Inspectors regularly analyze water samples to test for quality. They also inspect water systems and work with municipal, professional and public groups to make sure we’re all doing our part to keep our water supply safe.
“A key part of our job is not only monitoring water plants, but offering educational and technical assistance to water system owners and operators,” Davies says.
Manitoba’s Drinking Water Inspectors ensure they remain up-to-date on the latest standards and practices by participating in organizations such as the Western Canada section of the American Water Works Association, and the Federal-Provincial-Territorial Committee on Drinking Water.
