Winnipeg School Division Support Staff are the latest group to join the MGEU!

These new members work in a variety of supportive positions within the Winnipeg School Division including, but not limited to, Educational Assistant, Clerk, Library Technician, Crossing Guard and Computer Technician.

Each and every day they provide critical supports for Winnipeg students.

MGEU is thrilled to begin working with this new Local to ensure they have a strong voice and receive the respect they deserve while on the job,” MGEU President, Kyle Ross said. "We could not have made this happen without the unwavering dedication of so many WSD support workers."

The votes were counted today at the Manitoba Labour Board, and MGEU will displace WANTE as the official bargaining agent for this new local.

A bargaining unit certificate will be issued over the next few business days.

Support from our newest MGEU members

"I'm so happy and relieved to become an MGEU member. Knowing that we have the resources and support needed to be a strong voice for non-teaching support staff in the WSD is a huge win for us. With our current contract expiring July 2024, it was so important for this change to happen, now more than ever." - Kirsty Kozie, Educational Assistant, Lord Roberts School.

I am so excited to be part of MGEU to have a union that has specialists in areas like health and safety, workers compensation and pension. It is nice to have people who do not work for the employer to be an outside source to help us with employer issues. Also to have a resource team accessible to answer questions. MGEU will be there to support us along the way.” - Theresa Anderson-Trnka, Educational Assistant, Andrew Mynarski School

"Our switch to MGEU is the best thing that could happen for support staff in WSD. We now have a stronger backing for everything from grievances to bargaining and everything thing else. No more will we be just passed over as just support staff! We have a voice!" - Brenda Morgan, EA, Gordon Bell High School.

Since 1980 members have been working hard to represent their fellow workers with limited resources and experience. 43 years later our membership recognized that they deserve better by teaming up with the vast resources, experience and strength of the MGEU.  I look forward to building a strong future together.” Carrie Logan, Division Wide Clerical Support.
