Many MGEU activists will be remembering former NUPGE President James Clancy, who passed away on April 2, 2024.

Peter Olfert, who served as MGEU president during Clancy’s 26-tenure at the helm of the MGEU’s National Union (National Union of Public and General Employees), said they became close friends through their shared commitment to social justice and labour rights.

“We spent many hours talking politics and strategizing bargaining ideas,” Olfert said. “You could count on his support out there on a picket line here in Manitoba, or spearheading national campaigns such as the fight to keep liquor sales public. He made a difference and will be missed.”
