As we reported some time ago, the Union won a grievance which determined that a member should be compensated for travel time at overtime rates.

As a result of this decision, the government owed hundreds of employees for compensation. While certain departments made the necessary adjustments quickly, others (particularly Conservation) would not provide the affected employees with credit for hours spent travelling.

The MGEU had to take the extraordinary step of scheduling a further hearing with the arbitrator in order to take care of this issue.

We are pleased to report that, prior to the scheduled hearing date, the government has finally compensated all employees. In the Department of Conservation, over 600 individuals have been awarded travel time adjustments.
In total, over 9,000 hours of banked time have been awarded to various individuals in that department.

Other departments have awarded their employees in excess of 5,000 hours of banked time. It now appears that this matter, which began with grievances filed in 2000, has finally been resolved.
