What kinds of injuries or illnesses occur in your workplace? How do you inspect workplaces for all six kinds of hazards?

Answers to these questions -- and many more -- are in a new self-help guide for workplace safety and health committees and representatives.
The document is one result of the Seeing the Workplace with New Eyes project, funded by the WCB's Community Initiatives and Research Program (CIRP) with support from the MGEU, the Communication, Energy and Paperworkers Union (CEP) and several workplace safety and health committees. Consultants Joyce Rankin, Laurie Todd and Dorothy Wigmore wrote the guide based on project activities and workshops with those committees.
The approach to the guide, and its tools, have already helped the workplaces involved, and their committees. We want it to be used in Manitoba (and elsewhere), to help committees and representatives be more effective.
So, make copies of the whole document. After reading part A (about how to use the guide), chose the section that covers what you need to know right now. Review the toolboxes about committee process, health and safety, and using the Manitoba law. Print off the individual tools you need. Share the guide with members of your health and safety committee or others tackling those kinds of problems.
