Arbitrator Michael Werier’s ruling as it relates to Correctional Officers (MGEU) and the Province of Manitoba was handed down today. The entire ruling has been passed on to the Corrections Bargaining Committee for review and analysis.

Of note, the Arbitrator ruled that under Memorandum #3, which is the Memorandum that allows the Union to proceed to arbitration, he had authority to deal with the following issues:

- Special Wages
- Pensions
- Longevity Recognition
- Overtime

The award is as follows:
Special Adjustments – 6%
2% - 2006
1.5% - 2007
1.5% - 2008
1% - 2009

Pension
The Arbitrator found that MGEU has jurisdiction to negotiate pensions, and awarded the 1% pension contribution to be paid by the employer effective March 14, 2009.

The Arbitrator found that he had no jurisdiction to rule on the following under Memorandum #3:
Competitions
Part Time Issues
Full Time Stewards
A Day is a Day

The Arbitrator outright rejected:
Longevity Increments
Double Time Overtime
