Employee Assistance Programs
What is an Employee Assistance Program?
Most MGEU members have access to an Employee Assistance Program (EAP), which helps them and their families with problems that have an impact on their home or work life. The program is both confidential and completely voluntary. If you're not sure if your collective agreement includes access to an EAP or which program you're entitled to use, contact us.
How can EAP help?
Just as all of us occasionally suffer from some physical illness or disability, we can also experience personal or emotional difficulties at some point in our lives. Most of the time, we are able to solve our problems with the help of family or friends. Sometimes, though, the problem persists and becomes overwhelming, affecting our life at work and at home. EAP helps employees and their families deal with problems before they negatively impact their personal and work life.
What kinds of problems does EAP deal with?
EAP deals with a wide range of personal issues, including:- health concerns;
- anxiety, depression, stress and grief;
- alcohol, gambling and drug addiction; and
- family problems.
