Employee Assistance Programs
What is an Employee Assistance Program?
Many MGEU members have access to an Employee Assistance Program (EAP), which helps them and their families with problems that have an impact on their home or work life. These types of programs are both confidential and completely voluntary.
How can EAP help?
Just as all of us occasionally suffer from some physical illness or disability, we can also experience personal or emotional difficulties at some point in our lives. Most of the time, we are able to solve our problems with the help of family or friends. Sometimes, though, the problem persists and becomes overwhelming, affecting our life at work and at home. EAP helps employees and their families deal with problems before they negatively impact their personal and work life.
What kinds of problems does EAP deal with?
EAP deals with a wide range of personal issues, including:
- health concerns;
- anxiety, depression, stress and grief;
- alcohol, gambling and drug addiction; and
- family problems.
