LATEST BARGAINING NEWS
On September 12, 2025 members at Assiniboine College (Local 71) ratified a new three-year collective agreement (effective June 14, 2025 - June 16, 2028).
Highlights of the new agreement include:
- General wage increases in each year of the agreement
- A new max step for instructors, and a one-time automatic step progression
- Increases to some benefits and shift and weekend premiums
The next step in concluding the collective agreement is to work with the employer to finalize and sign-off the document, which could take some time.
Members are encouraged to make sure the MGEU has their current contact information to receive a link to the new collective agreement once it is available.

Overview of Bargaining So Far
Members of Assiniboine College - Local 71 had an opportunity to put forward their ideas and proposals for improving their collective agreement on September 16, 2024.
The Bargaining Committee compiled the proposals into a bargaining package that was presented to the employer on March 24, 2025.
Bargaining began in April and continued throughout the summer on a regular basis.
Once discussions about non-monetary items finished, the focus has shifted to monetary items such as wages and benefits.
On September 4, 2025, the Bargaining Committee reached a tentative agreement, that they recommended members accept. Members were sent an email containing agreement highlights.
An info session and electronic vote took place later in September.
