Strike action for Seine River School Division Educational Assistants (MGEU Local 145) was put on
hold following a late night bargaining session on Saturday evening that yielded a tentative agreement.
EAs were set to walk the picket line at 8 am this morning, but the tentative
agreement reached over the weekend means the Local will now be holding a
ratification vote and casting their ballots on Thursday, April 20 instead.
The Local 145 bargaining committee believes the offer is fair and will be sharing further details with members of the Local, while recommending acceptance.
Both parties feel the tentative agreement addresses
compensation concerns for education assistants, while also addressing
divisional challenges associated with recruitment and retention. The two
parties are also pleased to have reached a negotiated settlement that prevents
disruption to programming and services offered by SRSD schools.
