It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the loss of our friend, Rick Farley -- a long-time MGEU activist and staff member who passed away on November 29, 2023.
Rick began his union activism as a member of the Public Service Alliance of Canada. As an Administrative Officer 3 with the Province of Manitoba, he became involved in the MGEU -- first elected as Local President in the Administration Component in 1987, and later serving as Local Negotiator from 1992 to 1999. From 1996 to 2001, he represented members of the Admin Component on the MGEU Board of Directors.
Starting in 2001, he worked as an MGEU Staff Representative, advocating for workers and assisting members with Workers Compensation claims and appeals, before retiring in 2015.
Rick was a dedicated advocate for workers who will be missed by all those who served and worked with him in the MGEU. Our hearts go out to his family at this very difficult time.
