Updated: November 15, 2024

A work stoppage at Canada Post began on Friday, November 15. MGEU will stop using the service until the labour dispute is resolved.

During a mail stoppage, we ask members not to mail anything which is time-sensitive, as it’s unknown when it will be delivered.

How MGEU correspondence will be handled during a postal service disruption

Bargaining information and Local updates

Important or time-sensitive information about bargaining or other Local issues will be emailed to members. Any member who has yet to provide the union with their current personal email address can update their information online or contact the MGEU Resource Centre.

For Locals currently in negotiations, all bargaining updates are posted online ‘At the Bargaining Table.’

Member expenses / payments

Elected MGEU activists can submit their expenses online using their account on THE SOURCE and can receive payments by direct deposit (see the Direct Deposit Info Sheet for more details about setting up MGEU direct deposit).

Any other member needing to receive a payment from the union during the mail stoppage should contact the MGEU Resource Centre.

Time-off letters and meeting notices

Time-off letters will only be sent by email or fax during the mail stoppage. Meeting notices will continue to be emailed to members and we encourage Local representatives to print them and post them on union bulletin boards in their workplaces.

All MGEU meetings are also posted on the MGEU meeting and events calendar.

Grievances and other important documentation

Members should make arrangements with their MGEU Staff Representative if sending sensitive information to the union. Please do not place this information in the mail until service has resumed.

MGEU membership applications, collective agreements, and welcome packages will not be mailed during a stoppage. All MGEU contracts are available online, and the membership application form can be completed online.

Member education courses

Elected MGEU Workplace Reps will receive information about enrolling in MGEU courses by email only. Registration for courses takes place online through THE SOURCE

Other correspondence with the MGEU

Members can email correspondence to resourcecentre@mgeu.ca or make arrangements to drop items off at an MGEU office.

Any non-urgent correspondence normally sent to members by mail will be held until after the mail stoppage, unless a member makes other arrangements by contacting the MGEU Resource Centre.
