It takes a whole team of allied health care professionals to deliver quality health care in our province. And right now, we need to pay them fairly to make sure Manitoba’s health care system is able to keep up with the demand for their services.

That’s the message in an MGEU ad campaign that returns to airwaves next week, talking about our province’s health care staffing crisis and the thousands of dedicated allied health professionals who provide a wide-range of highly specialized services.

The updated campaign – called “This is health care” – features new radio, outdoor, and online ads to remind Manitobans of the many dedicated workers providing the best care possible, but who are often working with limited support and resources.

In recent years, staffing levels for these professionals has failed to keep pace with the demands of Manitoba’s growing population.

With negotiations underway on a new contract for these professionals, and many of them working through unsustainably high workloads, President Kyle Ross said there has never been a more important time to be vocal about their issues.

“The reality is we need to attract, train, and retain these health professionals if we’re going to end the staffing crisis and fix health care. The first step in that process is to make sure Manitoba remains competitive by providing fair wages to attract people, particularly in rural Manitoba, where we’re seeing significant staffing shortages.”
