The National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) has announced the recipients of its 2024-2025 scholarships, including winners from two MGEU families.

Christale Rasamison – whose parent, Michael Rasamison, is an MGEU Local 66 (MPI) member – is the recipient of the 2024 Scholarship for Black Students.

Christale chose to highlight the contributions of 2 leaders of African descent, Viola Desmond and Nelson Mandela for the impact they’ve had on her life. Christale stated their “experiences taught me that no matter how hard things may be, I must stay strong and never give up. Additionally, they have inspired me to remember who I am as a person and celebrate my identity with nothing but pride”.

Meanwhile, Xavier Rosarda – who is a member of Local 405 (Community Support) – will be receiving one of NUPGE’s Young Worker Scholarships.

In reflecting on the ways that unions are still important in the contemporary workplace, Xavier asserted that they are especially important in the healthcare system, “because unions help advocate healthcare worker’s rights and fair compensation, ensure patient safety and quality of care, and promotes career growth opportunities and continuing education."

Congratulations to Christale and Xavier and all of the 2024 winners!
