Welcome to the staff at the Detox Centre of Manitoba who make up Local 464, MGEU’s newest local!
Working as addiction counsellors, support workers and clerical staff, these 25 new MGEU members create a welcoming community for healing and recovery for those affected by mental health and addictions.
“By joining one of Manitoba’s largest unions, the workers at the Detox Centre of Manitoba will now have an even stronger voice in the workplace,” says Kyle Ross, MGEU President. “We’re excited to work with them on bargaining their first collective agreement and providing them with specialist support on topics that matter to them.”
The first local meeting for Local 464 members took place on January 12, 2026, where they discussed:
- The benefits of being an MGEU member
- Ways their MGEU staff representative can help them
- What negotiating a collective agreement includes
- How MGEU is structured and the role members play by holding various union positions
- The way elections for Local positions are held
Local 464 received their labour certificate on December 12, 2025. The next steps include electing a local executive and bargaining committee to begin negotiating their first contract.
