Right now, many Manitobans are struggling to make ends meet—paying more for everything, while wages fail to keep pace.
A new MGEU ad campaign hitting airwaves this week, talks about why it's never been more important for Manitoba workers, including those who provide our vital public services, to get a raise.
“Life is more expensive than ever”
While Manitoba’s unions continue to set the standard in negotiating better pay and improved benefits – which, in turn, have historically raised the benchmark for all workers – recent global instability has, once again, increased everyday costs for Manitobans.
According to the latest consumer price index data from Statistics Canada, Manitoba tied Nova Scotia for the highest inflation rate (4.3% per cent) in Canada over the past year, primarily due to big jumps in food and fuel costs.
“Life is more expensive than ever,” said MGEU President, Kyle Ross. “While many Manitoba workers have made some gains in recent years, many are continuing to fall behind because our cost of living just keeps going up.”
Looking out for each other
The new campaign – which includes radio, online video, social media, and billboard ads – captures what Manitobans do best: looking out for each other and lending a helping hand.
The campaign centres on a simple, yet powerful message: “It’s time to pay all workers fairly. That’s the Manitoba way.”
