LATEST BARGAINING NEWS

The Bargaining Committee has requested the employer to return to the table to continue discussions.

In the meantime, the committee is looking to the Community and Facility Support bargaining tables to see what changes may come there.

Overview of Bargaining So Far

Members of Canadian Blood Services - Local 200 had an opportunity to put forward their ideas and proposals for improving their collective agreement at a meeting on April 27, 2022.

The Bargaining Committee then worked to pull together these proposals into a bargaining package to present to the employer.

The Canadian Blood Services - Local 200 Bargaining Committee exchanged bargaining proposals with the employer in early 2023 and negotiations re: non-monetary proposals like contract language and working conditions continued into the spring and summer.

In August, the two sides exchanged monetary proposals, which includes wages and benefits and talks are continuing.

The Canadian Blood Services - Local 200 Bargaining Committee received an offer from the employer on December 15, 2023. They took it out to the membership for a vote, with a recommendation to reject.

Members of Canadian Blood Services - Local 200 voted to reject the employer's offer on January 3, 2024.

After members rejected the employer’s latest offer, the Bargaining Committee immediately got to work on a new proposal in preparation to meet with a third-party conciliator.

Meetings with the conciliator took place in March and April 2024. Further bargaining dates with the aid of the third-party conciliator were booked to the end of June 2024.

A tentative agreement with the employer was reached at the end of June and the Bargaining Committee organized a member ratification vote for July 10.

Members voted to reject the offer and the Committee informed the employer of the vote result, while also requesting a return to the bargaining table.

After Canadian Blood Services - Local 200 members rejected the employer’s last offer on July 10, the Bargaining Committee contacted the employer and requested a return to the bargaining table. The employer has agreed, and the two sides are in the process of scheduling dates to meet soon.

Given that Local 200 bargaining is tied to the health care support sector, the committee is watching health support negotiations closely and hopes to know more about the gains in this sector when talks resume with Canadian Blood Services.
