Sandy Bay Local 354 members have voted to accept the new four-year collective agreement.
Highlights include wage increases in each year of the agreement, wage adjustments to certain classifications, a long service step, and the addition of personal days.
The Bargaining Committee's next step will be to finalize the agreement with the employer and sign-off the document, which can take some time to complete.
Overview of Bargaining So Far
Members of Sandy Bay Ojibway First Nation - Local 354 had an opportunity to put forward their ideas and proposals for improving their collective agreement at a proposal meeting on March 23, 2023.
The Bargaining Committee then worked to pull together these proposals into a package and requested dates from the employer to begin negotiations.
The Committee exchanged proposals with the employer on Monday, August 28, 2023 and negotiations continued in September (25 and 26), October (25, 26 and 27), November (20 and 22), and December (11 through 15), 2023.
In 2024, the Bargaining Committee began working through non-monetary items (including working conditions and contract language) with the employer. Negotiations resumed on May 3, 15, and 31, 2024 and on June 5, 6, and 7, 2024.
Discussions re: non-monetary items like working conditions and contract language were nearly complete. Further bargaining dates were scheduled for June 25 and into July 2024.
On July 25, the Bargaining Committee reached a tentative agreement with the employer.
The Bargaining Committee recommended acceptance of the tentative agreement.
Information sessions and ratification vote opportunities were scheduled for August 6, 2024 from 4:30 pm - 7:00 pm and August 7, 2024 from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm.
