Last night, MGEU Local 383, 384, 385 and 422 members (Metis and Michif Child, Family and Community Services) voted to accept their first union contract.

The new two-year agreement (covering about 370 members across the province) goes into effect immediately. It includes wage parity as well as a commitment to maintain wage levels with comparable positions in the provincial civil service. It also includes contract language to ensure a culturally sensitive recruitment process. But most importantly to Local 383, 384, 385, 422 workers, this first contract provides them with improved job security and the fixed terms, conditions and transparency in their workplace that only a negotiated collective agreement can provide.

The bargaining committee encourages Metis and Michif CFCS members to update their contact information to ensure they receive a copy of the new contract once it’s printed.
