MGEU Continues to Grow as Largest CFS Union in the Province

Manitoba’s largest union continues to grow as 16 Child
and Family Services Western workers at the Emergency Placement Resource
Centre (EPR) in Brandon chose the MGEU, making
them the union’s newest Local.
The MGEU currently represents other CFS Western members at the child treatment assessment centres (known officially as Cypress House and Patrick House) as well as the majority of those in child and family services across Manitoba – including approximately 225 members who work directly for the Province and over 700 other members who work in outside agencies.
MGEU President, Michelle Gawronsky is excited by the news and happy to welcome these hard-working youth workers from EPR.
“Our union continues to grow in this sector and I think workers are recognizing the strength we have across the province representing those in child and family services. On behalf of all of our members I’m so very pleased to welcome everyone from the Emergency Placement Resource Centre in Brandon to the MGEU,” said Gawronsky.
The next step for the Local is to elect a bargaining committee and set proposal meeting dates to prepare for negotiations on their first collective agreement with their employer.
