Members of Canadian Base Operators Inc. Local 449 ratified their first contract today.

Negotiations with the employer began in October of 2018. The Local reached a tentative agreement on April 16, 2019, but it was rejected by members on March 1. Both sides went back to the bargaining table and reached a new tentative agreement, which was ratified today.

The agreement includes wage increases, improved holiday entitlements, modified hours of work, flex time, a streamlined step-advancement process, and additional personal leave allowances.

Based out of Southport in Portage, Local 449 members provide a wide-range of supports – from housekeeping to ice clearing to navigational equipment maintenance, for rescue, firefighting and Canadian defence missions. The Local has 49 members.
