Members of the Municipality of Westlake Gladstone – Local 454 are the latest Manitobans to unionize with the MGEU!

Local members work throughout the municipality’s Public Works and Water Utility departments, which include the recycling depot and waste disposal grounds, in roles ranging from administration to equipment operator.

“Like so many of our members, these folks provide vital services to their neighbours,” said MGEU President Michelle Gawronsky. “And that winter storm we had a few weeks ago highlights just how much Manitobans rely on such services when the going gets tough.”

The next step for the new members is to elect a Local Executive and bargain their first contract. Addressing fair wages -- they are amongst the lowest paid of RM employees in the province -- and hours of work will be priorities.

“Our union is eager to begin working with them to ensure they have the kind of voice, and receive the kind of respect they deserve, while on the job,” Gawronsky said.
