Kyle Ross will continue to lead the MGEU as President after he was acclaimed at the MGEU’s 67th Convention which kicked off on Thursday.
Provincial Table Officers also elected include:
1st Vice-President – Cris Quon (top left)
2nd Vice-President – Kimberley Lynn - acclaimed (top right)
3rd Vice-President – Kirk Carr (bottom left)
4th Vice-President – JP Lapointe (bottom right)
“The past two years at MGEU have been about working with members to take a stand together for fairness,” said Ross. “More and more, our members talk about OUR union instead of THE union. I look forward to continuing to build member solidarity so that we can make life better for all members.”
Ross is a former MPI member and has been a strong union activist since 2011. He first served as a Steward, before being elected MPI Component Director in 2016. He has also served on the MGEU’s Standing Committee on Technological Change and the Special Committee on Risk and Strategy.
“Despite the challenges our union has faced these last few years, we’ve also had some really important wins, both at the bargaining table and in strengthening our union,” Ross added. “We recently welcomed over 1,700 non-teaching educational support staff from the Winnipeg School Division, and we’ve grown our grassroots base, electing more stewards and other activists to speak out for members.”
The MGEU represents over 33,000 members across the province. The MGEU is Manitoba’s most diverse union with members in the civil service, crown corporations, universities and colleges, health care facilities, social service agencies, and arts and cultural organizations.
“I want to keep moving forward with the vision I came into this position with: engaging members to stand up together for fairness,” Ross said. “I’ve been to every corner of this province and talked to so many members since I’ve come into this role. I want to keep that momentum going to further grow and strengthen our union.”
Ross lives in Dugald, Manitoba, with his wife and two children.
