For over 30 years, the Manitoba Government and General Employees’ Union brand has been successfully represented by a red box with simple white “MGEU” lettering. The identifier has served the union well, seeing the MGEU through various changes in technology and communications developments over the decades.

Today, we bid a fond farewell to the long-standing logo and are pleased to introduce a new visual identity that provides a nod to the past, while guiding us to the future.

While the look has been refreshed, the union’s time-honoured “putting people first” tagline is not going away. In fact, as MGEU President, Kyle Ross, explains, the goal is to lean even more heavily into the statement that perfectly summarizes the organization’s core values.

“The new look and feel of our brand takes the MGEU outside the box, so to speak. It’s a more modern look that has been designed with accessibility and the digital age in mind. Our goals and values continue to reflect what we’ve done all along: providing great service to our members, while putting the focus on the workers who provide our public services.”

The updated brand emphasizes the power and momentum behind the labour movement – people – while the new logo serves as a visual representation of the collective strength, solidarity, and ongoing progress of the union in shaping a better future for all.

The red square, a long-standing central element in MGEU branding, has been re-imagined as a red corner or arrow, taking the brand forward and upwards, while also serving as a framing device to highlight the people behind the union.

The bold, clean MGEU lettering reflects the strength and unity of our members. To ensure maximum legibility and accessibility, the font weight has been increased along with an updated brand palette selected to improve colour contrast and maximize readability of the logo in both digital and print mediums.

Over the coming months, watch for the refreshed identity to be phased-in on union materials and digital assets.
