When you need public services, they need to be there for you.

But after years of cuts, thousands of jobs in Manitoba's provincial public service have been left unfilled, meaning there are fewer people to support families, keep children safe, protect our environment, and maintain our infrastructure.

Next week, the MGEU launches a new province-wide campaign, featuring television and online ads to remind Manitobans that it’s time to rebuild our public services and invest in the people who provide them.

In 2024, there were 3,013 fewer employees in Manitoba's Civil Service than in 2021. With the province's population increasing by 19% over that same period and almost 20% of jobs in the provincial public-sector currently left unfilled, the province’s services are struggling to keep pace with demand.

“Strong public services are the backbone of a thriving province and it takes dedicated people to deliver them,” said MGEU President Kyle Ross. “After years of cuts, our message in this campaign is simple: It’s time to hire back workers and rebuild our public services.”
